LEVEL 3 COMPETENT PERSON

Periodic inspection of harnesses & lanyards

Training aimed at: Anyone responsible for the periodic inspection of harnesses and lanyards
Course Duration: 1 day (6.5 hours)
Instructor to Trainee ratio: 1 : 8 (max)
Course Entry Criteria: NONE

The competent person course follows the same basic syllabus as Level 1 and delves into more detail on the subject of periodic inspection. This one-day course places a lot of emphasis on ‘hands-on’ training. You will be covering formal and periodic inspection of harnesses, lanyards (both webbing and rope), and inertia-type fall arrest devices.

COURSE AIMS:

• • To provide detailed information for anyone involved in maintenance of work at height products
• • To ensure that personnel are aware of the legal and best practice requirements when maintaining and inspecting fall protection equipment, and are therefore aware of their responsibilities

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Delegates will learn how to carry out and correctly document detailed inspections of standard items of fall protection equipment, through an assessed practical exercise.

On completion of this course, personnel will be able to:

• • See objectives for Level 1 – Basic Work at Height
• • Understand how to store and maintain fall arrest equipment (harnesses and lanyards)
• • Perform a full periodic inspection of work at height equipment (harnesses and lanyards) as required under manufacturer’s recommendations, BS8437, PPE Regulations (Personal Protective Equipment), WAHR 2005 (Work at Height Regulations - Regulation 12) and PUWER (Provision and USe of Work Equipment Regulations)

HANDOUTS

On completion of this course trainees will be given course notes in PDF form including HSE & Industry Guidance Notes and ACOPs.

ASSESSMENTS

A written assessment will be given at the end of the course by the height safety trainer. Written pass rate 70% +, practical pass rate 90%.

CERTIFICATION

On successful completion of the course all trainees will be issued with a certificate (to be posted).

THE COURSE UTILISES A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION, INTERSPERSED WITH VIDEOS, GRAPHICS, IMAGES AND CLIP ART – ACTUAL PRODUCTS ARE USED TO ILLUSTRATE POINTS

LEVEL 3A - COMPETENT PERSON - PERIODIC INSPECTION OF HARNESSES AND LANYARDS - IPAF APPROVED

IPAF Accreditation is also available for the Competent Person - Periodic inspection of harness and lanyards course. If you require IPAF accreditation, please mention this when you book your training session. The course follows the same structure as laid out above.
